Our Work

We thrive on working with both small SMEs and on large corporate commissions, related to organisational challenges of variable scale and complexity. We usually begin with a series of ‘scoping’ conferences, either in person or via video, in order to give us a more detailed understanding of the client’s need and mission. From there we set out our shared objectives, making sure that all stakeholders are involved in the decision-making every step of the way. Once the project plan is signed off, our multi-disciplined teams like to create an early proof-of-concept model to stimulate ‘touch and feel’ adjustments before creating a prototype which can be shared amongst our client’s colleagues in order to achieve full internal ownership of the solution.

We understand how valuable the client’s time is, so throughout the project we try and run an ‘agile’ incremental collaboration and offer monthly reports on progress made. Our cost-effective approach allows us to maximise the value we offer whilst minimising the client’s co-creation workload.

Our Typical Outputs

Our tools can be delivered by direct download or integrated into your own LMS delivery system. They are all designed to be used either in a team workshop environment or as self-directed learning by individuals. We offer ‘live’ simulcast delivery using our robust broadcast transmission service for those who want to link teams in different geographical sites. Most of our tools capture performance data that goes beyond ‘pass and fail’ reporting. Our behavioural psychologists have embedded measurement techniques that support data analytics related to soft skills, like emotional intelligence and cognitive resilience.

Our Client Work Categories

A typical customer journey with us might begin with a small piece of consultancy to personalise any potential commission and then either a modification of an existing tool or a built-to-order solution. Generally, our broad range of local and international clients require three different types of working relationship – Commissioned Bespoke Work; Product Design-and-Build Work; and Strategic Consultation. Below, we summarise some of our recent projects in each of these categories, to help bring to life our approach.

Continue reading to learn about our commissioned work, or you can explore our products and consultancy work using the in-page menu below. This menu appears at various places to help you navigate, but you can scroll straight past it to continue reading.

Commissioned Work

UK Ministry of Defence Logo

Ministry of Defence / DSTL  -  We are contractually limited in what we say in the descriptors of our five-year working relationship. We have designed and built three immersive programmes that broadly enable frontline command trainees to gain confidence in decision-making, where information levels are low and intuition and rapid analysis is required.

A montage of four images. Image 1 shows UK military personnel looking at computer screens. 2. The Sentient tool settings page on a computer screen. 3. Sentient tool room organistation plan on computer screen and printed on paper. 4. Over the shoulder of a man studying trainee feedback graphs

We built a whole fictional world for the simulation, including many fictional websites, interactive episodes of a TV-style narrative that brings to life the scenario progression and the use of transmedia techniques that allow key stakeholders in the scenario to pass vital information to trainees on their mobiles during the exercise. In extensive trials these have proven to be credible real-life simulations that offer a safe place for trainees to explore and learn.

The data analytics report on various cognitive and human team working assessments that indicate areas where more traditional training might then be required. This work really demonstrates the one-stop-shop capability at Limetools, allowing cross discipline innovation between our in-house broadcast storytellers, behavioral -psychologists, learning and gaming designers and our data analysts.

UKRI  -  We were commissioned to design and build two induction programmes for this large and diverse community of innovators.

We worked with the Security and Resilience group to create an immersive programme that walked new employees through the challenges of remaining secure in an IP-rich environment and that enabled a highly complex group of policies to become memorable, whilst facilitating personal security action plans.

We won a national competitive tender to produce the overall UKRI Corporate Induction programme. This required us to make accessible a detailed introduction to nine very different research organisations and promote an overall group culture that new employees could quickly assimilate and be proud of. The challenges of making a formal induction attractive to technology proficient new postgraduates, as well as more senior management arrivals required innovative storytelling techniques and a high level of accessibility versioning to ensure inclusivity.

The objective was to instigate a more memorable set of personalised behaviour changes that could strengthen a collective security culture across central government. The prototype was successfully trialed and subsequently led to the creation of our own ‘Humans’ product (see Products).

European Commission Logo.png

European Commission Horizon Programme  -  We won a commission to develop a behaviour change campaign game that delivered a decrease in energy consumption in large organisations across Europe and offered insights into ‘net zero’ compliance, when applied in the challenging SME and multi-lingual office environments.

The Feedback Project and our prototype game, Ceres Dawn, took three-years of R&D and the outputs were tested in offices in Portugal, Spain and Germany. This unusual combination of desktop TV soap episodes, linked to a competitive team game learning programme, did produce valuable data on how much can be achieved in changing office habits that have been ingrained for generations.

Our role was to create a fictional scenario as part of the investment training team’s workshop programme. The roleplay scenario was designed to present challenging decision-making for trainees, whilst bringing to life the investment dilemmas through credible characters seeming to report into the live workshops. The design of the scenario game and the production of associated media and fictional documentation made these highly technical workshops memorable and relevant to the trainee’s normal consultancy activities.

Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)logo

Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy  -  As part of the ‘Business-led Innovation in Response to Global Disruption’ national call, we received a grant from Innovate UK to quickly develop a tool for UK employees who were suddenly having to adapt to homeworking during COVID. The tool was built in Bournemouth and London over a three-month period under COVID-19 lockdown conditions.

The project team had support from the BCP Council, Bournemouth University Science & Technology Faculty, and Dorset Police Cyber Unit. The POWER Tool (Personally Optimising Work Environments and Routines - TPT) became an online, interactive learning tool designed to support home workers in maintaining good cyber security and personal wellbeing.

Delivered over three, 25-minute sessions, TPT enabled the user to self-audit their physical working conditions and their virtual online security environment, whilst adapting their habits and routines to ensure their productivity is supported by more efficient and confident collaborative online techniques and their emotional and mental wellbeing remains positive.

Products

We are currently designing and creating a series of tool libraries and other commercial initiatives to be sold directly into the open market. Innovate UK continues to be very supportive in helping us research the current markets of energy resilience and organisational security. The new libraries will be a downloadable service that can be used in parallel with an organisations’ in-house training, bringing the curriculum to life or they can be used as ‘nudges’ after training has been completed.

Our tools are will be configurable to allow clients to select :

1.   Delivery Method – Learning Management System, streaming, simul-cast live.
2.   Learner Profile  - Tools are designed to work as a self-directed or workshop learning experience.
3.   Tool Modularity  -  Design allows for individual modules and tools to be put together, or for a collection of tools to be run with a campaign

       support pack.
4.   Personalisation  - All tools are made ‘white label’ to allow for personalisation with company branding and language versioning, if required.

Humans logo with strapline saying 'behaviour changing stories for resilient security

Humans is a library of TV-soap format mini dramas that allow trainees to observe common human behaviours and attitudes that weaken an organisation’s security and resilience, combined with a range of feedback tools that enable the users and their managers to feel confident at work or understand where individual vulnerability needs more support. The ‘Humans!’ library can be effective in encouraging learning of the ‘correct behaviours’ when used by individuals, security training managers or in HR or IT workshops as a trigger for discussion points and action plans. Security Officers might also want to automate across organisations, easily digestible, short behavioural ‘nudges’ to remind staff in a highly memorable way, what good security requires of everyone.

The Behaviours  -  The library programme is designed to mitigate against the risks caused by the five most prevalent poor security attitudes and behaviours that currently exist in medium to large organisations:

“It’ll never happen to me…”

“Security is someone else’s job…I’m way too busy to take all that on”

“What’s the point when the recommendations and upgrade policies keep changing!”

“I know what I’m doing…it’s minor; no need to escalate it”

“I trust my colleagues, so sharing sensitive information casually is fine”

WATNeXT logo with strapline saying 'Wide application trusted network exchange tool'

WATNXT – Wide Application Trusted Network Exchange Tool  -  A life companion App designed for all 16–20-year-olds entering the world of professional work, further study or exploring being an adult. WATNXT is an Instant Link Service, that uses personalised pre-configured circumstances and locations to connect users to local and national support and welfare services relevant to their search, helping young talent grow strong whilst remaining secure in their early professional and adult lives. To resonate with the media and tech literate user group, the app features a library of short TikTok-style multimedia knowledge ‘bites’ that are compelling ‘explainers’ of the subject area they are searching for as well as short TV-style soap opera episodes that allow for observation of insecure behaviours and the action planning needed to develop positive habit changes in multiple areas of their work/life ecosystem.

Ecoplan logo with strapline saying ' net zero life planning that works'

ecoPLAN – the home of Limetools’ environmental behaviour change   -  It’s no longer a novel conversation to have that Climate Change is happening, and that action needs to be taken now to avoid catastrophic repercussions. We want to use our environmental and behaviour change expertise to bring organisations along with us in reducing their energy consumption and carbon emissions, by changing behaviour within organisations, and empowering staff to make changes in work, at home and in the wider world to reduce their energy consumption and CO2 emissions, and in doing so reduce their organisation’s too.

ecoPLAN is a short, three-module tool used to raise awareness and change habits, personally and organisationally, to become more energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions in buildings. This three-module tool uses a combination of comedy, scientific insights and quiz games to deliver the answers to  “why should I bother, and why now?”, and gives staff the techniques to make real changes to start saving energy.

ceres dawn logo

Ceres Dawn is an immersive 12-week campaign game designed specifically for organisations on their journey to Net Zero Carbon and builds on the foundation that ecoPLAY achieves. The campaign combines a weekly TV-style soap opera, with gamification and behaviour change techniques and tips, plus team and individual challenges to bring the whole organisation onboard with the pro-environmental behaviour change.

Ceres Dawn captures data on knowledge retention, emotional engagement, and their ability to apply what they have learned to their own environment and can feed with varying levels of granularity upon request.

HUMAN FACTOR LOGO

The Human Factor  -  Every year millions are lost to businesses as a result of cyber-attacks. In 2025, in the UK alone, 43% of businesses reported having a security breach in the last twelve months. To respond to this evolving and prevalent threat, our Psyber division at Limetools focuses on combating both the technical and the human element of cyber-attacks to provide a 360 solution for you and your business.

In the cyber world much of our vulnerability comes from individuals failing to recognise risk factors and therefore adapt accordingly. It’s important that we address this risk and continue to evolve alongside the ever-morphing security threats.

At Limetools, we have developed a range of learning tools that increases the level of natural alertness and mental elasticity in our learners to promote behaviour change in response to cyber threat. Our company ethos is to increase confidence, not fear.

Decorative pattern

“Cyber Security is about people, processes and technology…  organisations need to bolster the weakest of these, which is normally the human element."

“It takes 20 years to build a reputation and few minutes of cyber-incident to ruin it.”

Stephane Nappo   -  Global Head Information Security,  Société Générale International Banking pole

John Dale   - Limetools Co-founder

"Our experience working with large corporates and government organisations across the world is that behaviour change is often considered expensive and can tempt even the most passionate leader to sigh ‘probably not on my watch’. We believe that our tools bring a new realism and measurability to delivering change, at a cost that is dwarfed by the value of the outcomes.”

Kevin Mitnick  -  the world's most famous hacker, now turned global White Hat.

As well as being able to complete each cyber tool individually, we have created The Human Factor programme, a tool kit that includes a number of complimentary cyber security learning tools including Psyber Metrics, Psyber Basics, Psyber Social and Psyber Data tools.

Together, the tools create a combined ‘one-stop-shop’ eLearning cyber and human factors programme. Each part of the programme has been adapted from our portfolio of individual programmes to provide a larger campaign-style course.

PSYBER METRICS LOGO
A professional woman looks at a computer screen displaying the Psyber Metrics 'Scenario Movies' menu.

Psyber Metrics is a 45-minute tool that audits your current vulnerabilities when working in the digital environment, by testing your judgements in a variety of cyber risk scenarios. Two types of test are carried out. The first assesses aptitude and general awareness of cyber risk. The second test is timed against the clock and measures skills and current habits. This score helps calculate the level of vulnerability in five different areas of work…

• Data Storage         • Home Working         • Mobile Working         • Malicious Insider Reporting         • Outsider Risk

The tool also uses TV style dramas, that not only show how risk can emerge very quickly in a working environment, but also introduces you to the point of view of the hackers and their motives. These scenarios help you to absorb the implications of different types of cyber threat and consequently embed the topics more efficiently.

PSYBER BASICS LOGO
A laptop computer displays the Psyber Basics sign-in page
an Asian man looks at a computer screen displaying a still from the Psyber Basics drama, below which is the question 'Should Tristan tell Miranda about her error?'

Psyber Basics is a short learning tool, designed to facilitate the process of adapting your day-to-day behaviours in three areas of cyber activity...

• Office Working            • Home Working            • Mobile Working

These areas cover aspects relating to hacker personas and motivations and the various possible cyber risks they pose including insider & outsider; password; phishing; and digital storage habits. As well as mitigation processes that can be implemented to reduce each risk.

The purpose of Psyber Basics is to bring your knowledge of important baseline cyber security and human factors information up to speed. Fictional case studies help make the knowledge transfer impactful, encouraging long-term retention of better cyber habits.

PSYBER SOCIAL LOGO
A hand operates a tablet computer upon which a Psyber Social tool screengrab shows the title ' Let's audit your security...'

Psyber Social is a 45-minute tool that focuses on habit change priorities related to social media. This is a beginner level tool, looking at the basics of social engineering and understanding the exploitation of trust in these types of hacking techniques.

This tool will help you understand how your online social media behaviour can impact your personal life and business integrity by covering the stages of a successful social engineering attack, using a dramatised case study and analysing the motivations behind the hacker and attack implementation.

Episodes of the drama are woven throughout the tool to ensure you are absorbing the detail and story-line of the drama, so you can later apply what you have learnt in a habit change plan and knowledge checker.

PSYBER DATA LOGO
A professional female is using the Psyber Data eLearning tool on a computer screen.

Psyber Data is a suite of seven self-directed learning tools that deliver an informed awareness, combined with prioritised habit changes, related specifically to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), across a range of staff levels.

• Psyber Data: Fundamentals    • Psyber Data: Managers IT    • Psyber Data: Managers HR    • Psyber Data: Managers Marketing

Psyber Data: Managers Not-for-Profit      • Psyber Data: Managers Legal      • Psyber Data: Executive

Psyber Data: Fundamentals takes approximately one-hour and is recommended for all levels. It is designed to limit poor data management habits, from receptionists to the senior management team. This tool will act as your platform for a further five ‘managers’ tools that dive deeper technically into specific operational areas of expertise.

Psyber Data: Managers take approximately 50-minutes to complete and are designed for managers responsible for IT, HR, Marketing, Not-for-Profit and Legal. It is recommended that if you are purchasing any Psyber Data: Manager tools, that you firstly complete Psyber Data: Fundamentals tool. The story-line in the drama is linked throughout the suite, starting from the Fundamentals tool, all the way through each Manager tool, immersing you further and providing a narrative thread.

Psyber Data: Executive is a short 20-minute informative tool aimed at raising board level awareness, to help attribute data responsibility to senior leaders. The suite brings alive an understanding of the new regulatory act but to teach in a way that lowers the potential risk of ‘staff denial’ due to the enormity and complexity of the requirements.

Consultancy & Strategic Planning

Developing generic behaviour change tools has enabled us to learn from experience the most effective way to enable employees to embed in their daily working lives, new techniques that generate more productive lifelong habits. This knowledge has proved valuable to a wide range of clients, who have commissioned us privately to develop solutions and strategies for their own organisational change planning.

The MOD commissioned us, as learning designers, to review the whole defence learning ecosystem and build theoretical specifications for tools that could inspire adoption of new technologies in learning. Our research explored relevant global education and training literature, and we interviewed key Defence stakeholders in UK Front Line Commands (FLCs) (Joint/MoD Head Office, Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Navy (RN), and the British Army) to analyse the current Defence Learning Ecosystem and understand the change requirements. Key findings indicated that learning analysis, design and assurance must become more agile and braver in future, to deliver maximum impact and increased value. DSTL then commissioned further research on four of our nine recommendations. After publication, the team were invited, along with DSTL colleagues to present our findings to The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) annual conference in Orlando, Florida.

We offer consultancy on policy development, design organisational vulnerability audits and plan soft skills development. To start a conversation about how we can support your change programme, contact Kyle. We are always happy to receive a brief and respond with a full proposal at no initial cost, if we think we can make a difference.
